Rural Family Medicine Physician - Vulcan
Alberta Health Services – Calgary Zone, Department of Rural Medicine in partnership with the Vulcan Medical Clinic, is actively recruiting a Rural Family Medicine Physician to establish a full-time practice in the community of Vulcan. This position will provide services in Community Clinic, Emergency Room Coverage, Inpatient & Outpatient Services, and Long-Term Care.
Duties include but are not limited to:
· Reside in and have as his/her primary residence within the community of Vulcan.
· Establish and maintain a panel of local patients in a full-time community-based practice in Vulcan.
· Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide services at AHS facilities (Vulcan Community Health Centre).
· Provide call assistance as per call schedules, including equal participation in the Emergency Department and Inpatient Care at the Vulcan Community Health Centre as well as care for own patients in long term care at Vulcan Community Health Centre and Extendicare Vulcan.
· Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies.
· Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care.
The Vulcan Medical Clinic is located within the Vulcan Community Health Centre. A major renovation in 2020 included an expansion of the clinic providing modern exam, consult and procedure rooms, as well as additional office space. The clinic is well established and supported by clinic staff.
The Vulcan Community Health Centre has a 24/7 Emergency Department, 8 acute care beds, and 15 long-term care beds. Onsite services include Laboratory, X-Ray, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietetic Services, Adult Day Support, Home Care, Public Health and counselling services. Ultrasound services are available twice a week. Visiting specialties include Psychiatry, Pediatrics, and Cardiology. A Respiratory Therapist is available onsite once a month for spirometry and inhaler education.
Required Qualifications
· Licensed or eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (General Register).
· Must read, write, and speak English fluently.
· Recent hands-on experience (within the past 12 months) in all areas of practice noted within the Description, as the sole provider.
· Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
· Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
Desired Qualifications
· College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP).
