Alberta Health Services (AHS) invites applications for a Surgical Hospitalist
Opportunity at a Glance
· Practice setting: Hospital based
· Approximate FTE/ rotation model: Flexible days in a 10 week rotating Schedule
· Weekend Coverage: N/A
· Patient population: Urban
· Call responsibilities: 24 hour call while on shift
· Patient Census: 10-20 beds
· Start date: ASAP
Responsibilities May Include
· Hospital inpatient care or consultative services
· Surgical assist may be available
Clinical Supports & Environment May Include
· Associate Physicians / NPs / PAs support
· Pharmacy support / rounding model
· Specialist backup (surgery, ICU)
· Allied health team: PT/OT/SW, etc.
· Diagnostics: CT, MRI, ICU, etc.
· EMR: Connect Care / Epic
Academic & Teaching Opportunities
· Teaching medical students and/or residents may be required
Qualifications
We are seeking collaborative, adaptable physicians who are comfortable in
Required Assets
· Certification in Family Medicine with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), or equivalent (ie. other generalists eligible to participate as General Practitioners under the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (Skill code “GP” under the AHCIP).
· Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)
· Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association
· Experience in
Preferred Assets
· Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
· Interest in quality improvement, teaching, or program development

Compensation
Physicians recruited to these positions have the choice of being remunerated either through Fee for Service billing or by participating in the Co-Managed Care Clinical Alternate Relationship Plan (ARP).
• The current gross compensation rate for the ARP is $444, 645 per annum for a full-time commitment (1.0 FTE, or 1928 hours per annum). In addition, After-Hours Time Premium payments apply for clinical services provided during evenings/weekends/holidays ($89.64 / hour) and for night coverage ($183.08 / hour), payable on top of base compensation.
• Fee for service billing is an additional available option, including after-hours premiums as above
