Zone Program Medical Director (ZPMD) – Program and Performance
Reporting to the Associate Zone Medical Director, Program and Performance (P&P), the Zone Program Medical Director (ZPMD) is a key leadership position within the North Zone and Alberta Health Services. The ZPMD is accountable for all physician-related matters, as well as all operational and strategic issues and decisions requiring physician input or leadership that arises within their department.
Alberta Health Services (AHS) has adopted a Dyad Model for leadership. This refers to a leadership model in which a medical leader and an operational leader are partnered in a shared and complementary decision-making relationship. Significant decisions and recommendations are made jointly, and there is considerable overlap in the accountability of the two partners.
In a competent and professional manner, the ZPMD must possess a Zone-wide perspective and an approach to leadership by contributing to the broader AHS vision. The ZPMD will promote an environment that fosters quality improvement, a safe, culturally-diverse environment for staff, physicians and patients and a commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression.
Key Responsibilities are:
- Work in a shared leadership model with the Executive Director of your Program, through cooperation and collaboration between these two positions
- Provide effective and consistent communication to support both medical and operational functions
- Ensuring active two-way communication of key information between the medical staff, program staff and NZ Leadership
- Collaborate with the Zone Leadership, medical leads, frontline physicians and staff by leading and focusing discussions about your program
- Contributing to the development and evaluation of Zone strategies and operational plans that support patient-focused integrated care programs and delivery across the zone
- Through the interaction and collaboration with internal and external partners, influencing the direction of service programming
- Developing new ways to reach out to patients and stakeholders, to stimulate input and exchange of information
- Ensuring effective engagement of physicians, staff, volunteers and the community
- Promoting an environment that fosters quality improvement and a culture of safety for physicians, staff and patients by continually improving health and safety performance
- Provide key medical leadership within Seniors Health, ensuring medical engagement and that the physician perspective is incorporated into portfolio activities
- Work with the Strategic Clinical Network to identify, plan, implement and evaluate priority projects within Seniors Health
- Perform all duties assigned to him/her in the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules
- Perform all duties as may be delegated by the Zone Medical Director or designate
