Responsibilities/Duties:
Alberta Health Services (AHS), Edmonton Zone invites applications for the role of Northern Alberta Medical Director, Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID).
This 0.10 FTE position governed by the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules, reports to the Edmonton Zone Medical Director (ZMD) and Deputy Zone Clinical Department Head (DZCDH), Continuing Care and Seniors Health. This Northern Alberta role provides key support in the areas of:
• Being an active resource for MAID assessors and providers including providing direct assistance/advice for challenging situations
• Working collaboratively with zone-based MAID navigators and assist in addressing service needs/difficulties as they may present
• As a member of the Northern Alberta team, participates in provincial team meetings and contributes to discussions about challenging situations in other zones
• Provision of education and support to new assessors and providers, and may provide education sessions with significant program changes • Raising awareness and supporting providers across the two zones
• Collaboration with Provincial MAID program in strategic program development and evaluation
• Assist with privileging, as delegated
Working in partnership with the Zone Medical Directors, the MAID operations program and providers, you will have an opportunity to shape the evolution of program in Northern Alberta. You will also be encouraged to undertake relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) related to MAID as appropriate.
The position has an expected start date of approximately April 25th 2022 and an expected term of 2 years.

Qualifications:
• Licensed (or eligible for licensure) with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta
• Eligibility for a medical staff appointment with Alberta Health Services

• Strong Communication Skills.
• Current Canadian Medical Protective Association Coverage.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Working knowledge of Medical Assistance in Dying.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary teams.
